Great value, good features, better than the price suggests,
This is a great little site radio. Its small (140mm x 140mm x 200mm h excluding antenna) and rugged, has a digital tuner and most importantly lets me easily connect my phone or ipod with the inbuilt 3.5mm cable to listen to my own music collection.
I looked at all the jobsite radio alternatives and this was my pick of the bunch. Its not perfect by any means. It would be great if they could have included mains power. Also a compartment to store your ipod in would be very handy (as Milwaukee are doing). If it charged the battery when plugged in even better. But that would have added quite a bit of weight and cost. And really, who wants to risk a GBP200-300 radio on a building site? This is cheap enough that if it gets wrecked then its not the end of the world.
When comparing radios I found apart from the normal Dewalt-Makita-Milwaukee-Bosch options that Roberts do a couple of ‘tough’ radios also for sale here on Amazon. They would likely have much better sound quality, but need 6 D size rechargeables to run off when mains power is not available. Not practical for me (my recharger would have to be replaced – and I would need to buy the rechargeables too).
The low price of the AEG actually put me off – if it was GBP50-60 I would have bought it much faster. How can a GBP24.10 radio be any good? But I took a chance and actually its fine. Sound quality is ‘good enough’, radio reception is fine, and it certainly plays LOUD
Battery life (on a 18v LI-ION at least) seems good.
The deciding factor is if you already own suitable AEG batteries. If you do, or are buying an AEG drill or similar for someone else then add this radio, they will be chuffed.

Fantastic little radio, great tone, great build quality. What more would you want when out on site! Great addition to my fantastic 18v lithium combi!

|Good, if you already have an AEG battery.,
I bought this item rather stupidly and did not realise that it didn’t include a battery. When looking for an AEG battery I discovered that they cost about £50. So, as I said, I would recommend as a cheap radio if you already own an AEG battery (for a drill or something) but otherwise I would look at alternatives.
